Church on the Rise

Our church sits on a rise and our prayers rise to the Lord Jesus.  Worship services began at the Church on the Rise (FMC) in 1921.  Many have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior here in the 87 years the church has existed.  The front vestibule came later and the rear fellowship hall and 2nd story special event rooms were added in the late 1940's.  Much interior renovation has been accomplished in the last 15 years,  a new roof has been installed, and we have cleared brush growth and turned it into grass.  Last year, we added a new furnace and AC system.  Work at present includes the upgrading of our sound system and installation and use of a video projector.  The site originally was only 0.5 acres.  In the 1990's 2 acres of additional land were acquired and in 2007, the adjacent builder donated land for our parking lot

Banners to the Lord hang in our sanctuary.

Our Sunday service starts at 10:45 AM.  The worship service is primarily contemporary.  We typically begin with a traditional hymn and follow that with contemporary praise music by our worship team (with guitars and drum accompaniment).  Sermons are ALWAYS Bible-based.  Jeans and T-shirts are as welcome as 3-piece suits and ties.  We have a fellowship luncheon  about once each month and Prayer Meetings on select Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.

Typical attendance is in the range of 35 people.   Our sanctuary capacity is at least double that.

The Reverend Baker Rigg is our full-time pastor.  Photos of Pastor Rigg and his wife Sheran and a message from Baker are presented on the Pastor's Page.

The church is located in the town of Culpeper, Virginia, on U.S. Route 522 North (on the right) approximately 0.6 miles from town.  Look for the message sign - our calling card to the community. A map is presented below.

The Tuesday 10 AM Bible study is very well attended.  Officially it is a ladies bible study (see photo below), but recently men have been permitted to attend as well.

We provide partial support to three missionaries and sponsor the two children shown below, Wacheline from Haiti and Uko from Nigeria.

Major community outreach programs include opening the facility to a Spanish Church and six AA meetings per week.  Handicap access is available.
